The English Restaurant: Reviews & Ratings

This review is for breakfast. And I love coming here for it each time I’m in London. Food: Breakfast! Weekend breakfasts are tops as they do the Full English then, but weekday breakfasts tick the box too. I had the Eggs Benedict – eggs cooked to a runny perfection with the most delicious hollandaise on a lightly toasted English muffin. And a supporting flat white to wash it down with. Service: Friendly and attentive without hovering. Space: A great spot to work out of (quiet work, don’t do your calls here folks, please) and enjoy a beverage and a meal. I can’t say they’ll be OK with folks hogging a table at peak times but I’ve only ever been there pre-lunch. Cost: So very reasonable for central London, about £25 for breakfast and a coffee. Takes cards and cash. Give it a go!

Fantastic! Great fresh wholesome food served by enthusiastic staff all washed down by great beer, fine wines and moorish ports. Will be back soon! Keep up the good work chef and team

I got the lamb with mint sauce on there Sunday roast menu and it was delicious. The roast potatoes we perfect, crisp and fluffy. The leeks were some of the best I have had and the lamb was delicious. Highly recommend. I’m gluten intolerant so I couldn’t have the Yorkshire pudding but was accommodated well by the staff. I sat in a booth and the atmosphere was very nice a good level of noise and cozy decor. I will definitely be here again.

The English Restaurant, nestled on Brushfield Street in the heart of London, is a charming destination for anyone seeking an authentic taste of classic British cuisine. From the moment you step inside, the cozy ambiance—with its nostalgic decor featuring antiques and vintage photographs—whispers stories of a traditional English tavern brought to life.

What truly sets this eatery apart is its dedication to quality and simplicity. Their breakfast offerings are a standout, especially on weekends when the Full English breakfast shines. The Eggs Benedict here is a revelation: perfectly runny eggs draped in silky hollandaise, resting atop lightly toasted English muffins—a harmony of textures and flavors that lingers long after the last bite. Pair this with a rich flat white, and you have a morning ritual worth returning to time and again.

For lunch and dinner, The English Restaurant continues to impress with wholesome, fresh dishes. The Sunday roast lamb with mint sauce is a particular highlight, featuring tender meat paired with crisp, fluffy roast potatoes and some of the best-cooked leeks around. Even those with dietary restrictions, like gluten intolerance, find thoughtful accommodation without compromise. Meanwhile, the smaller menu on other days doesn’t sacrifice quality, boasting perfectly cooked seabass and satisfying sides that speak to the kitchen’s skill and care.

Service matches the quality of the food—friendly, attentive, and unobtrusive. The atmosphere remains inviting yet unpretentious, ideal for a quiet meal or a productive work session, provided calls are saved for elsewhere. Prices feel very reasonable for central London, making The English Restaurant not just a place to eat, but a spot to savor traditional English flavors with relaxed confidence.

To finish, the desserts offer their own delights. The bread and butter pudding, creamy and balanced in sweetness, alongside comforting banana bread, evoke the warmth of home-cooked comfort food. These finishing touches make a full visit here a rich, satisfying experience grounded in heritage and hospitality.

In sum, The English Restaurant is a culinary haven for those craving genuine British fare, served with heart and skill in an environment that invites you to linger and return.
